Pure Essence Distillery Oy was founded through the shared vision of the Hinawi and Jubran families — two industry-leading families with more than 100 years of experience in the alcohol sector. Across generations, their combined expertise spans distillation and alcohol production, premium retail and wholesale distribution, global import and export operations, and brand development.

What began as parallel family businesses naturally evolved into a long-standing partnership built on trust, craftsmanship and shared values. Over decades, the families’ enterprises expanded the availability of premium wines and spirits across the region, established reputable retail operations, and built export networks reaching more than 20 countries worldwide.

Pure Essence Distillery Oy represents the next chapter of this legacy — uniting multi-generational heritage with Nordic precision and quality, and remaining committed to producing spirits defined by purity, authenticity and world-class craftsmanship.

The heritage behind our spirits

Since1860

The original permit
is still kept at the factory.

The story begins in the late 1800s, when Finland was still part of the Russian Empire under Alexander II. On 18 February 1860, local potato farmer Juhan Matinolli was granted an official distillation permit for the premises — signed in the City Hall of Oulu, and allowing distillation pans of up to 46 cans, when a can measured 0.5 l.

Pure Essence continues that work today: every bottle of Finlap and Nordia is produced and bottled by The Pure Essence Distillery in Tyrnävä, Finland.
